Sorry to hear of Dan's passing. We were Boy Scouts together. A gentleman then and a solid scout partner.

   Although I never met him, Dan Barksdale and I were classmates in Sandra Weyrick's 8th period Geometry class.  She had a dry, nearly humorless teaching style, or at least I thought so, and one warm afternoon she found herself in a place well-known to teachers of high school mathematics.  Few students were paying attention and no one knew, or wanted to volunteer any answers or cooperate with her.  We were mostly watching the clock. In her frustration she tried to shame us.

   "I'm going to school at night at Western Reserve trying to get my Master's degree and last night I was up until 2 AM trying to solve just one problem on my home work!  I spent over three hours trying to solve one problem.  I dare say none of you kids would spend three hours doing one problem."

   "Ha Ha! You'd better believe it!!"   Danny Barksdale's loud, booming voice and his oh-so-truthful comment just brought down the house as we all disolved in gales of laughter.  Even serious Miss Weyrick seriously cracked up.

                                                                    * * * * *

   Incidentally, Dan's father, A. Beverly Barksdale, was the business manager of The Cleveland Orchestra during the years George Szell conducted it.  I'll bet the Barksdales were nice people to know.
